Grinding/ Polishing
If the parts you’re designing need to have features ground in or require a highly polished finish, you need to find a provider who knows what they’re doing. Hyde Custom Fabrication has the experience in grinding and polishing that will produce parts to fulfill your design specification.
Custom Blade Grinding is a metal-working machining process utilizing abrasive wheels as the cutting tool. Technically, grinding is a sub-process of cutting. Each abrasive grain on the wheel acts as a single-point cutting edge and removes a tiny chip from the work piece. This is similar to other cutting processes except on a much finer scale. Grinding is an effective way to “hog” out large amounts of material rapidly, yet grinding can also be used to produce very fine finishes and very accurate dimensions. Grinding is the most effective way to machine hard materials such as stainless steel.
Polishing and buffing both are actually finish-grinding processes for smoothing a work piece’s surface. Custom Knife Polishing uses an abrasive glued to a wheel, while buffing uses a loose abrasive applied to a wheel. Polishing is a more aggressive process while buffing is less harsh and offers a smoother, brighter finish.
Hyde has been grinding products for well over 125 years. From manually operated grinding wheels to overhead belt driven machines to the latest 5-axis equipment, you benefit from all the experience we’ve gained since the early days of grinding. We grind a wide variety of products, ranging from small hand knives made of low carbon steel to stainless steel machine blades used in high precision processing of food and other materials. You can take full advantage of these core competencies by trusting Custom Fabrication with your parts!
Whether your product requires an edge developed by a craftsman’s hand or the precision of a machine ground edge, you have access to the best of both worlds. We have hand grinders with decades of experience and our machine grinding department offers state-of-the-art equipment manned by skilled employees with a multitude of gauging and testing equipment to back them up, grinding literally millions of parts each year.
And you can take advantage of a variety of finished edges that can be provided – from toothed to beveled to scalloped and everything in between. Recesses, slots and tapers are not a problem. Do you want a sharp edge honed? No problem! No matter what your finish needs are, or the tolerances you require, Hyde’s grinding and polishing department will give you the edge.
You can put all this experience and capability to work producing your precision ground parts. Send either a drawing of the part(s) you need or a sample part itself. Be sure to specify the material the part is made of as well as the quantity needed. We’ll then match your requirements to our processes and prepare your quotation.
If you thought finding custom grinding capability for your parts would be a challenge, you can stop worrying – you’ve found the experts!
