Heat Treating
When you need quality heat treating for your parts, look to a service provider that has years of experience and know-how to offer. Hyde Custom Fabrication can provide you with the heat treating skills necessary to fill your needs.
Heat treating is a process performed on many metals in order to alter the properties of strength, ductility, toughness, hardness or resistance to corrosion. Heat treatment involves heating metals to extreme temperatures to achieve a desired result, such as hardening or softening a material, and is often a critical step in the manufacturing process – proper heat treating often goes unnoticed while bad heat treating can be disastrous. Common heat treatment techniques include annealing, tempering and quenching.
Hyde Custom Fabrication has a number of heat-treating options available, in-house, offering you the exacting qualities you need. With hardening furnaces and tempering furnaces that can handle parts up to 24″ diameter or 36″ long rectangular from the many steels in stock, Custom Fabrication offers you consistent quality for all your applications.
Three types of heat treat furnaces – atmosphere, vacuum and salt bath – are available to meet the needs of your parts. Atmosphere and vacuum box furnaces have a rugged simplicity and conservative design which makes them very versatile and trouble-free. Vacuum furnaces offer the advantage of being able to achieve much higher heat temperatures, while also offering extremely repeatable results. Both atmosphere and vacuum box furnaces are excellent for handling smaller batches of product, where the batch is placed in the oven until the proper heat treatment results are achieved.
Two computer controlled salt bath furnace systems offer you quick ramp-up and high heating uniformity with temperatures maintained within a tight range throughout the bath, providing high quality and uniform processing results. Salt bath furnaces offers exacting control of the process while also providing great flexibility in terms of the variety of steels that can be heat treated effectively. Tie in load-unload carousels and you can take advantage of high production rates on large volume runs to achieve the best possible results at the best possible cost.
Next, your product is run through a tempering process in retort or steam tempering furnaces. Steels that are heat treated, while very hard and strong, are often too brittle to be useful for most applications – tempering alleviates this problem. Through re-heating the part, the brittleness is brought down and toughness is imparted to the steel. This combination of heat treating and tempering makes for effective, usable tools and parts. We should know – we heat treat literally millions of parts every year.
Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions has been heat treating parts for over 130 years. Send either a drawing of the part(s) you need or a sample part itself. Be sure to specify the material the part is made of, and what characteristics you’re looking for, as well as the quantity needed. We’ll then match your requirements to our processes and prepare your quotation.
For quality, consistent heat treating, you’ve found the expertise you’ve been looking for.
